Day 8 - 2025 East Coast Adventure - Into Acadia
7/25 - Winslow Park, ME to Acadia National Park, ME
I woke up early to the sunrise coming up, but since everybody else was still asleep, I too went back to sleep. I woke up later to a bright, but crisp morning..
I had a work meeting again this morning so I took that from camp while Amy walked around with the boys. They discovered a game room where they could play around so needless to say, Amy finished the walk on her own.
After the work call was over, we packed up camp and headed for our first National Park of the trip - Acadia!
We started north and went through some pretty remote areas as we headed east on highway 1. Before we jumped onto Mt. Desert Island, we stopped at the truck stop for a cooler lunch and fuel fill up. Surprisingly, it was full service! I didn't even know this existed any more.
After managing the traffic on Mt. Desert Island, we eventually arrived in Acadia at a small campsite, but in a very quiet campground. After a couple of days being exposed to the winds without trees, it was nice to be back in the woods, though it was nice to still be close to the ocean.
After we set up camp, we went on a hike around the bay. We played on the rocks, the boys hucked some rocks into the ocean, and we watched as the low tide left the river to drain into the ocean. We quickly learned that while it was possible to walk on the seaweed, it was slick as can be. So, we tried to stay to the solid rocks which also helped avoid the snails which were very abundant!
After the river hike, we stopped at the lighthouse to do another short hike. It provided a view of the lighthouse, but was a very short (though steep) hike.
Back at camp, we cooked up some eggs and had them with some leftover taco ingredients for our dinner.
After dinner, Amy and I left the boys to their hammocks and we walked down to the beach. The tide was starting to come in and, as I went down to the oceans edge, the clear water allowed an amazing view of the life below. While nearly hidden in the algae, I spotted a small green crab and caught him for a bit before letting him back into his spot.
The boys tried to sleep in their hammocks, but after a while everybody gave up and we ended up back in the camper for a cool peaceful evening.
