Day 23 - Madinson, WI to Las Vegas, NV - Another long transfer day

Today was going to be another long day with 2+ hours of driving to the airport and 3.5+ hours in the air.  But it started out right as we all really slept in.  In fact, two people called us before we were out of bed!  I guess we’re still living on Pacific time.

We actually ended up having to wake the boys because there was a brunch and we needed to get over there if we were going to have enough time to eat and visit before heading to the airport.  My mom had arranged for a brunch at the Univ of Madison Student Union.  It was a delicious breakfast full of fruits, veggies, eggs, sausage, bacon, and a LOT of delicious donuts nad pastries.  The boys loaded up and enjoyed their last breakfast with vacation-level sugar intakes.

Robinson was the fun host this morning and went around from table to table making hats out of the cloth napkins.  Soon it looked like a convention of archbishops - it certainly added some informality to what was otherwise a very formal room.  Everybody seemed to enjoy.

Before we knew it though, it was time to hit the road so we did our good-byes (not fast by city standards, but extremely rapid by Central Illinois standards) and were on the road at the time we estimated we would be.

We caught some traffic off 290/294 so we diverted and did a quick nostalgia trip for me.  Good news - the pond I built so many years ago was still there.  Brookfield as a whole seems to be a bit of a timeless wonder and still seems a blissful little community and great place to grow up.

We made it to MDW, dropped off the rental car, checked a bag, and headed for our gate.  We made a short diversion to get some Home Run Inn Pizza and then just killed time while waiting for the flight to board.  Pretty soon though we were all seated and Las Vegas bound.

The flight itself was pretty ordinary, very smooth actually.  The boys watched movies while I took time to catch up with this blog!  As a bonus, we got a chance to see the Grand Canyon, even if it was from the air.

We landed in Vegas, grabbed our bag, and walked out the door into some HEAT!  We decided that pool time was the best option for battling the heat so we headed back to camp and into the pool.  After some splashing around and enjoying the water, we went back to camp, zipped up the sides and put the A/C back to the test fo the night.

While the day was a lot of sitting as we traveled, we were all tired and ready for a good night of sleep before a long travel day tomorrow.  With that, tomorrow will bring more of the adventure - bring it on!5u}
