Day 11 - 2025 East Coast Adventures - Fundy Fun Day!
7/28 - New River Provincial Park, NB to Fundy National Park, NB
Last night turned out to be a very quiet campsite so everyone stayed in bed until after 6:30. Because we had moved so far to the east, it was nice to be on Atlantic Time because the time the sun came up was much more aligned to what we are used to.
We packed up camp and headed into St Joh)n. I had a work meeting so we unhitched the camper in the Walmart parking lot and I went into a McDonald's for the meeting while Amy and the boys went downtown.
My meeting was uneventful, but Amy and the boys had a great time They decided to wander down by the port to see if they could find some souvenirs. While Robinson couldn't find anything he liked, Sebastian found an "elbows up" sweatshirt he's very excited about. They walked around a bit exploring the town before coming back to pick me up.
I finished up my work stuff while Amy handed out some lunches for the boys. Then we hooked up the camper and, before we left St John, I couldn't resist the opportunity to see what high tide looked like at the reversing rapids. While it wasn't yet high tide, it sure looked different than last night. There was actually a sailboat going through there while yesterday I wouldn't have tried it on a whitewater raft! Below is a picture of both today at high tide and yesterday for comparison.
After driving past the rapids, we headed out towards Irving nature park. Robinson had seen their hedge maze in the pamphlet for St John and so he wanted to see it. We parked and walked around and found the maze next to the playground. We wandered around getting lost and finding what they had hidden in the maze (xylophone, drums, open middle section) before we all found our way out. It was pretty fun - not something you can do every day!
After the maze, we were ready to get traveling so we skipped the rest of Irving nature park and started to head north. The drive was a bit long today so we put on our book on tape for the trip - The Martian. While the boys and I had listened to it before, Amy had only seen the movie. We enjoyed laughing together at all the fun moments of my all-time favorite book.
Eventually, we arrived at camp in Fundy National Parkand discovered that the camper was continuing to show its age (cabinet coming off wall and rear of camper coming loose). So I spent some time doing repairs (screws for the cabinet, gorilla tape for the back) while the boys played at the playground. Eventually Amy joined the boys and explored a bit. They found the saltwater pool, though it was too late to swim, and checked in at the Ranger Station. Amazingly, Canada had made their national parks free for summer so we actually received a $20 refund!
We made pasta and broccoli for dinner and then started to wind down the day. While the boys took their showers, I walked over to the ocean edge to see how low tide looked here. I walked back as the stars started coming out. It looks like it's going to be another wonderful evening of camping.
