Day 13 - Salt Lake City, UT to Moab, UT - “Adventure” creeping back in

As predicted, last night was NOT a pleasant quiet night.  At some point in the middle of the night, a hurricane seems to have rolled across the Great Salt Lake and landed on top of us.  Heavy winds and lots of rain.  The canvas was flapping and sounded like a drum preparing to tear loose.  The camper was also creaking with all the pressure the wind was applying.  Eventually Sebastian asked me to look at the radar and thankfully I could tell him that the worst had passed and it would begin calming down.  After 20 minutes, it did calm to the point that we could all fall back asleep.

We woke up to more rain.  Thankfully it stopped as we were getting ready to pack up.  Unfortunately, as we hooked up Dover to Rover, Rover said that it had low tire pressure.  This is particularly annoying because when Carmax sold us the car, they said it would not be an issue.  I guess they’re just like every other used car dealer after all - honesty only matters so much.

Instead of heading directly for Moab and starting to enjoy Arches National Park, we stopped BACK at Carmax to have them figure out the tire issue.  They said that they did not have any replacement tires and if a patch was not an option, it would likely be 24 hours.  Not what we wanted to hear.

While we waited, we sat outside Carmax and ate a soup and snack lunch.  I had forgotten to grab the can opener so I used a knife to open the cans of soup.  Sometimes we really look homeless which I guess technically we are for 2 months.

After about 90 minutes, Carmax gave us the great news that the tire could be patched and it was done.  We were ready to roll.  We hooked up Rover and Dover and headed for Moab!

On the way to Moab, we drove through another heavy rainfall.  I know this rainfall is good for the area, but I’m really starting to question if this is actually a desert.  I think we’ve been rained on every day since we left Denver.  While on the drive, we started listening to Dragon Teeth which is a fictional story based on two infamous palentologists.  The whole family seemed to enjoy imagining them in the places were were driving through today!

We arrived at our stopping point for the next couple of days (Moab Rim RV Campark) with the rain starting to end, but still drizzling.  We set up the camper in the drizzle (I’m getting good at this sadly) while Robinson met the dogs of the park. The rain ended and we were able to cook a dinner on the picnic table with a rainbow forming in the distance.

We enjoyed the feast together and then got ready for bed.
